The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority has used this year’s Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival to brief military personnel on its mandate and operations in the energy sector. The festival is underway at the Malawi Armed Forces College and runs from May 11 to 15.
Athletes from different MDF units are competing in football, netball, volleyball, basketball, athletics, boxing, golf, chess, table football and other disciplines.
Opening the event, Chief of Defence General George Alexander Jaffu described the gathering as a reflection of unity and discipline within the force. He said it also provides an opportunity to evaluate performance and rebuild the MDF’s standing in national sport. He urged participants to uphold focus, integrity and sportsmanship.
MERA’s engagement with the officers and soldiers placed particular emphasis on the lakeshore district, where illegal fuel vending remains a persistent challenge.
