The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) is participating in this year’s Trade Fair with renewed commitment to creating an enabling environment for players in the sector. MERA has taken its place at the 36th Malawi International Trade Fair at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds, showcasing innovators and renewable energy suppliers who are shaping the future of energy in Malawi.
As a regulator, MERA promotes sector players at trade shows and exhibitions to advance safe, reliable, and sustainable energy access. This year, MERA is exhibiting alongside PowerPlus Control Systems and Waste and Innovation Hub, two Malawian enterprises providing practical clean energy solutions.
During his tour of pavilions, Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism Simon Itaye listened as Waste and Innovation Hub Founder and Project Leader, Moses Kamchedzera shared his vision of refining the Hub’s petrol and diesel project, produced from plastic waste, for wider use. Kamchedzera explained that the product had passed its first test with the Malawi Bureau of Standards but requires funding to refine it further for commercial rollout. The Hub also converts other waste materials into cleaner energy sources such as biogas and briquettes, showing how waste can be turned into power for homes and small businesses.
PowerPlus Control Systems is also under MERA’s stand. The company builds, installs, and maintains solar systems for both household and industrial use, supporting the shift to affordable, renewable power.
Addressing the exhibitors after the tour, the Minister said this year’s theme ‘Promoting economic stability through enhanced production and industrialisation’, demonstrates the link between increasing industrial capacity and overall economic growth. “These displays speak directly to the theme. When our industry players increase production and adopt new technologies, we strengthen industrial capacity and support economic stability,” he said.
Through its presence at the Trade Fair, MERA continues to facilitate market linkages and ensure consumers benefit from safe, innovative, and cost-effective energy solutions in line with its strategic goals.
