The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has suspended the Liquid Fuels and Gas Retail operating licence for Nzeru Za Abambo Fuel Service Station located at Chinsapo in Lilongwe for violating the requirements of the Liquid Fuels and Gas licensing conditions.

MERA noted during its regulatory inspection that the Service Station had outstanding shortfalls against the provisions of the Liquid Fuels and Gas (Production and Supply) Act as well as other laws concerning the protection of the environment and the public’s health and safety. The shortfalls include but are not limited to expired licences and certificates, poor electrical installations and fire management system, damaged forecourt and driveway, poorly installed diesel pump, neglected sanitation, and lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Reinstatement of the licence will be subject to satisfactory implementation of the requirements of the Liquid Fuels and Gas licensing conditions.

Fuel Services Stations are reminded to always ensure compliance with licencing conditions and to have valid licences and certificates. The laws and regulations governing the Liquid Fuels and Gas sector are available at www.mera.mw.
