In accordance with Sections 16 (5) and 17 of the Electricity Act No. 22 of 2004 and Section 30 of the Energy Regulation Act No. 20 of 2004, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA)will conduct public hearings on the application submitted by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) to review the Electricity Base Tariff covering generation, single buyer, system market operator, transmission and distribution activities to be implemented up to 2027.

The public hearings are scheduled for 10, 12 and 14 July 2023 in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, respectively. Physical attendance at the public hearings will be by invitation and the meetings will be live streamed on several platforms to be announced in due course.

The Base Tariff application is available on the websites of MERA (www.mera.mw) and ESCOM (www.escom.mw). Copies of the application can also be collected from MERA Head Office, MERA Complex, Off Convention Drive, City Centre, Lilongwe and ESCOM offices in Umoyo House, Blantyre.

Members of the public and stakeholders wishing to have specific issues addressed during the public hearings should submit their comments in writing by 16:30 hrs. on Thursday, 29 June 2023, to the following address:
