Energy regulators from across the region have converged in Lilongwe, Malawi, for a crucial meeting aimed at harmonizing energy regulations and sharing best practices.

The Regional Energy Regulatory Association (RERA) Subcommittee Meetings, which kicked off today at the Bingu International Convention Centre, bring together representatives from Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Angola.

Over the next four days, delegates will engage in intense discussions on key areas such as consumer protection, finance, and human resources. The meetings are expected to culminate in steps outlining the region’s commitment to enhancing energy regulation and cooperation.

RERA’s Executive Director, Elija Sichone, emphasized the significance of the gathering, stating, “Regional cooperation is vital in shaping the future of energy development. We must work together to address the energy challenges facing our region.”

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) is hosting the event, which includes an information session and a visit to a solar plant in Salima.
