MERA Suspends Operations at Two Fuel Service Stations
The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has suspended operations at two fuel service stations, ENGEN Mvera and MT MERU Chinkhoma, for violating fuel sales regulations.
In a bid to curb the current fuel crisis, MERA earlier issued a directive banning the sale of fuel in jerrycans. However, investigations revealed that the two stations were selling fuel to vendors in jerrycans without clearance and approvals from MERA.
The regulator received complaints from affected customers, prompting an investigation that confirmed the malpractice. As a result, MERA has suspended operations at the two sites until the issues are resolved.
The suspension serves as a warning to fuel service stations to adhere to regulations and guidelines set by MERA to ensure a stable and fair fuel supply in the country.
