MERA participates in World Consumer Rights Day Commemoration
The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) participated in the 2024 World Consumer Rights Day commemoration activities held in Kasungu on 14 March. Organized by the Competition and Fair-Trading Commission (CFTC), the event focused on the theme “Disclosure of Terms and Conditions, Traders’ Obligations.”
This year’s theme aligns perfectly with MERA‘s commitment to consumer protection. MERA, therefore, seized the opportunity to raise awareness about energy consumer rights and responsibilities and energy sector complaints handling.
CFTC organized the event to highlight consumer rights and ensure Malawians have access to quality goods and services at fair prices. In his address, Minister of Trade and Industry, Sostern Gwengwe who served as guest of honour, issued a stern warning to businesses selling essential items at inflated prices and encouraged consumers to report such malpractices.
